Wangaratta Art Gallery
Situated in the Wangaratta Arts Precinct, the exhibitions gallery is housed in a 100 year old church. It features a soft ceiling of cedar with cedar trusses creating an ambient space for exhibitions of diverse nature including visual arts, crafts, design, sport, heritage and social history. The gallery services the Rural City of Wangaratta and the North East Region.
The Wangaratta Art Gallery visual art collection comprises a developing collection of Australian textile and fibre art, including indigenous textile art. In addition the collection features significant works by north east Victorian regional artists, art about the region by significant artists, small sculpture and Australian contemporary art. Current acquisition pursuits focus mainly on contemporary textile art, and Australian contemporary art. The WAG also acquires through the prestigious Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award exhibition held every second year.
Represents conemporary visual art and textile / fibre art dealing with diverse subject matter and issues pertaining to contemporary life in the 20th and 21st centuries. Includes north east Victorian artists as well as Australian artists.
